PUPILS at Chagford Primary School showed off their knowledge of fresh local produce last Friday, as the school held its own farmers' market.
Children took responsibility for organising the market from start to finish, running stalls selling fresh, tasty goods from a range of local food producers and grown in the school garden.
As part of their ongoing Food for Life Partnership work, the market was designed to teach children enterprise skills as well as understanding more about the local food chain.
The Food for Life Partnership has created a network of over 4,400 schools across England committed to transforming their food culture.
It supports them to provide fresh, well-sourced and nutritious meals and improve their overall lunchtime experience.
It helps children, adults and teachers understand the importance of good nutrition and where their food comes from through practical cooking and growing activities and farm visits.
Any money raised from the event will go towards further farm visits and food education in the school. Funding from Greater Dartmoor LEAF enabled both Chagford Primary and The Grove Primary in Totnes to hold farmers' markets.
