A RECORD top price of £2,340 for a breeding bull at Tavistock Livestock Centre was recorded at their June Fair sale.

The 22mo pedigree South Devon bull was bred and sold by P and W Coaker, Widecombe-in-the-Moor, and bought by farmer A H Cole, Yelverton.

The bull was well grown for 22 months old and had a strong pedigree, being sired by Waddeton Centurian and being out of one of P and W Coaker?s own bred dams, Bittleford Primrose of 1998.

A total of 15 breeding bulls were entered with all but one finding new homes.

A quality consignment of four pedigree Limousin bulls from E A and D A Ellis, St Ives, sold to £1,700 for a 27mo bull sired by Richmonds Rambler being bought by S J and T L Cobbledick, Bude.

Following the breeding bulls were the breeding cows with a run of 12 in calf cows from R J and S H Greep, Cornwood, selling to £445 for a 9 year old Limousin cow.

A total of 385 store cattle met another 100% clearance with trade exceptionally strong throughout.

Top price was £700 for an 18mo Charolais x from J Hicks, Callington. This was followed by £660 which was seen three times, firstly for two 12mo Limousin x steers, no claim, from J H, S J and P M Cole. Sampford Spiney; secondly for an 11mo Charolais x steer, no claim, from M Eggins, Roborough and thirdly for two 15/16m South Devon steers, 1st claim, from R H Murrin, Bere Alston.

Second claim steers sold to £645 for a 23mo Limousin x from A M Stephens, Bere Ferrers.

Heifers made up half the entry and sold to £558 for a 26mo Charolais x from R E Doidge and Son, Stoke Climsland. Young heifers sold to £462 for an 11mo Simmental x from M J Turpin, Roborough and heifers 16-21mo topped at £530 for two 19/21mo Charolais x from A Kilfedder, Tavistock.

Other notable prices included £555 for two 24mo Belgian Blue x heifers from J W Horswell, Callington, £658 for two 23/24mo Simmental x steers, first claim, from M J Turpin, Roborough; £600 for two 13mo Aberdeen Angus x steers, no claim, for R E Dawe and Son, Milton Abbot and £550 for three 22/24mo Maine Anjou x heifers from W A Cole and Sons, Sampford Spiney.
