Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 3
Callington 4
Veryan 2
CALLINGTON got the Dobwalls game out of their system but this win was not as convincing as it should have been.
Veryan were not strong enough to trouble Callington, but the missed chances may be important later in the season. Good forward running by two youngsters, Rooke and Kelly, kept Veryan on the back-foot for most of the game.
Rooke got the first goal and Rider should have claimed the second, but after a strong run into the penalty area his shot took a deflection and an own goal beat the keeper.
Into the second half and the missed chances piled up until a quality strike from Hartly gave Callington back the two-goal margin they had surrendered when sloppy defending allowed Veryan to pull a goal back.
The scoring for Callington was completed when under more pressure Veryan conceded another own goal.
But Callington went to sleep again, allowing Veryan to poach another goal.
