OKEHAMPTON Rotary Club and Okehampton Lions Club has continued to support the Haiti earthquake disaster with collections around the town.
Okehampton Rotary Club sent more than £6,000 to ShelterBox from a collection weekend outside Waitrose supermarket, a collection in Okehampton Post Office, Exbourne village and several private donations.
President of Okehampton Rotary Club, Mike Macklin, expressed thanks for all the support from residents and businesses in and around the town.
He said: 'This sum of money has enabled us to buy 14 ShelterBoxes and with money still coming in we hope we can provide even more.
'This is a wonderful response from Okehampton that helps ShelterBox continue its vital work in Haiti at this time.'
Okehampton Lions Club also sent over £500 from their Christmas collection outside the supermarkets.
President of Okehampton Lions Club, Ian Snell, said: 'A lot of support has gone out to Haiti through Lions Club International Foundation.
'Okehampton Lions Club will continue to contribute further in the near future with the re-building of the country, which will need new schools, hospitals and orphanages.'
Every donation sent through Lions Club International Foundation will go directly to Haiti.
