WEST Devon Community and Voluntary Services has been working with a group of community groups, including the Lions and Rotary clubs, to set up a new project — a pool of trained volunteers who will act as marshalls and stewards and will be available to hire to event organisers.
Volunteers have received traffic management and basic first aid training, been supplied with appropriate equipment and are ready to help run a local community event.
The first outing of the 'West Devon Rovers' is Tavistock Athletic Club's half marathon on March 30.
Much interest has been shown in this new venture, which has been generously supported by Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council and Okehampton United Charities.
West Devon Rovers will greatly assist local event organisers to continue to run the wide range of events held in the borough.
As a West Devon Rover, the volunteer will have the opportunity to be involved in local community events, giving something back to the community and at the same time, enjoying a great day out. For some, volunteering with this group will bring new skills, certificated training, an enhanced CV, experience as working as part of a team, the chance to build self-confidence and to have fun.
Anyone who would like to become a West Devon Rover, or anyone planning an event in West Devon and would like to book the team's services, should contact West Devon CVS' volunteering services co-ordinator Billie Burnett on 0330 6600357 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
