The seven mile route goes from Middlemoor up to Sampford Spiney via Warren's Cross, and then drops down to Huckworthy Common before returning via Plasterdown.
The race was started by Beijing Olympics silver medallist Heather Fell, who is also a member of Tavistock AC.
There were strong winds all day and heavy rain fell before the field completed the course, but the weather did not seem to bother the leading runners.
Local athlete and Tavistock AC member Harry Wiltshire powered home to win in a time of 38 minutes 33 seconds, with Wayne Stephens from Bideford AAC second in 39.40 and Steven Brookes from Tamar Trotters third in 39.58.
Just behind in fourth was the winner of the U18 category, Tom Lawson, also a member of Tavistock AC, who finished with the exceptional time of 40.01.
The first U18 lady was Olivia Drury from Plymouth Coasters in a time of 54.24.
Bideford AAC won the men's team prize, closely followed by Tamar Trotters and Plymstock Road Runners.
The ladies' race was again won by Revis Crowle, representing East Cornwall Harriers, in a time of 45.33, and 34th overall, with Jaine Swift of the Women's Running Network second in 46.04, and Caroline Steven from Launceston Road Runners third in 46.51. East Cornwall Harriers easily won the team prize, with Tamar Trotters second and the Women's Running Network third.
The first non-affiliated runner home, and finishing 14th, was Jonathan Gore from Okehampton in a time of 42.19, while the first lady was Catherine Fewings in 48.13.
Just after the main race, 150 mums, dads and children tackled the testing 1.5 mile Fun Run over the Down which was also started by Heather Fell.
This was won in great style by Clare Fraser hotly pursued by Tom O'Callaghan, both junior members of Tavistock AC.
The organisers would like to thank the race sponsors, Mansbridge and Balment, Abbey Garden Machinery, Active Co, Colin Smith and Co and The Rosemont Guest House Yelverton for their support, and Mr and Mrs Donne and Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket Club for the use of their ground.
