Children at Okehampton Primary School are enjoying their new all-weather play area made possible thanks to £45,747 funding from the Okehampton United Charities.

The outdoor play area includes a special springy surface providing a comfortable surface for children to take a tumble on. There is also a ‘trim trail’ which features wooden play equipment for the children to scramble over.

The play area has been funded by the Okehampton Education Foundation, part of the Okehampton United Charities, which provides a grant to the three schools in the town each year, based on the number of pupils as well as granting scholarships and bursaries to individuals.

Charity clerk Karen Percival said the play area would help the children in providing them with an outside space for use in all weathers.

‘The ethos within the school is to try and get the children outside and active,’ she said.

‘It is proven that that is beneficial to help them go back in and learn in a really constructive way.’
