Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 2 Torpoint 3 THE final home game of the season for the Lambs was another one of disappointment as they went down to the odd goal in five against a team just above them in the re-election battle. But the home side created the better of the opening exchanges. Mark Conday got to the by-line to cross low but no-one could provide the final touch. James Steer and Fergus Nevin saw shots go wide of the post before Torpoint went ahead after 20 minutes. Chris Menhinnick was allowed to head on a free kick into the area and Brian Stacey reacted to shoot low past Andy Meeds in at the far post. But the Lambs responded ten minutes later with a well worked goal. Lee Fox?s header out of defence allowed Steer to put the ball into the path of Will Westlake to lob the keeper from just outside the area. Westlake and Steer went close before the visitors went ahead in controversial fashion on the stroke of half-time. Menhennick raced clear from just inside the Lambs? half with appeals for offside waved away and despite a challenge from a defender he got his shot on target. But Meeds made a brilliant save to tip the ball onto the bar and over for a corner. Attention was then drawn to an assistant who was still stood firm with his flag across his chest indicating a penalty award for a shirt tug on the attacker. Menhennick made no mistake from the spot to put the visitors into the lead. It went from bad to worse on the stroke of the hour when a cross in from the right was not dealt with and Stacey latched onto it to stab home from close range. A minute later Conday saw his turn and shot tipped around the bottom of the post by Evans. Westlake and sub John Gosling had the ball in the net around the 75th minute mark but each time it was disallowed for handball. They finally got their second deep into injury time when Westlake got his second but it was too late to salvage a point. Controversial penalty decisions both for and against knocked the stuffing out of the Lambs. With just one game remaining away to Falmouth this Saturday they will have to wait to see if Callington can catch and overtake them with their games in hand to see who finishes second from bottom.
