East Devon Bill Slee Cup first round
Okehampton Argyle Seconds 5
Northlew 0
THIS local derby was played in good spirits. The referee was late arriving so Marcus Barrett took the whistle and controlled the match well until the official arrived.
Tim Shaw looked sharp and speedy for Okehampton. His pace took him round his marker and from his neat angled cross Jason Sandford picked his spot nicely.
Okehampton created lots of chances and when Northlew?s defence gave away a free kick on the edge of the box the alert Danny Maddax drilled home from close range to extend Okehampton?s lead.
The second half saw Okehampton assert themselves more and from a long range pass Sandford hit an unstoppable drive past Carl Downes. Andrew Smith came on for Nick Jones, who had worked hard down the left flank. From a quick Roger Voaden throw-in Smith outpaced his marker but was brought down in the box, but Sandford?s kick was well saved by Downes.
Smith was to get his rewards after a defence-splitting ball from Maddax found him in a one-on-one with the keeper and he coolly lobbed him from 20 yards.
Maddax again provided the telling pass for Okehampton?s final goal when he found Shaw who chipped in for a deserved goal.
Okehampton missed a second penalty when Chris Drew was brought down in the box but the midfielder blasted wide his effort.
