GOOD Samaritan Darren Tait was the pride of the Tamar Valley after he led a team of intrepid volunteers across Europe to hand out badly-needed supplies to Ukrainian refugees.
Mr Tait, 50, led a convoy of nine vehicles via Belgium and Germany into Poland, where he and his team distributed the supplies to refugees.
The boss of St Ann’s Chapel-based Darren’s Cars made the decision to take on the 1,500-mile trek after witnessing the plight of refugees fleeing into Poland ahead of Russian troops.
He had at first hoped to take one van-load of medical equipment and other supplies, but launched an appeal for more vehicles after donations from the Tamar Valley and neighbouring West Devon flooded into the company’s offices.
Mr Tait said: ‘We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the community. It has been fantastic.’
