Okehampton Cup semi-final

Tedburn St Mary 1

(aet. Hatherleigh won 4-2 on penalties)

THIS was a poor display by Hatherleigh against a side in the bottom two of the league below them.

For much of the first half Tedburn showed more desire to win and it was no surprise when they took the lead with a well taken volley.

Hatherleigh pressed but their passing let them down and when one stray pass went towards Pearson he went for it committed 100%. Unfortunately he fractured his foot, although he battled on until half-time not realising the extent of the damage.

The start of the second half saw Hatherleigh pass better and it was not long before they got an equaliser. The ball was worked to Dymond just inside the area and with his back to goal he hooked the ball over his shoulder, over the keeper and into the net.

This should have been the cue for Hatherleigh to go on and win, but they dropped back down a gear and allowed Tedburn off the hook.

Extra time saw Hatherleigh try to get the winner with Dymond being denied by the keeper?s legs and Tedburn throwing bodies in to block other shots and crosses.

Tedburn should have won it at the end. A cross came in from the right and the initial header hit the crossbar. When the ball rebounded to a Tedburn player he managed to put his header wide of the empty goal.

The penalty shoot-out saw the first four penalties all scored. Tedburn then missed their next two while Hatherleigh kept scoring, putting the latter through to meet Chagford in the final.
