A FATHER and son from Spreyton have taken on a mammoth cycling challenge to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.
Dennis Edwards and his son Daniel began their journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats on Sunday, July 15.
The pair will ride unsupported for 14 days averaging 75-miles-per-day to cover the testing 1000-mile route.
Dennis said that some years ago he visited a children’s cancer ward in Exeter hospital, he then vowed to himself that he would do something to help the children and their families.
Daniel, who now lives near Cambridge but was brought up in Belstone, regularly takes part in charity events and said he was very keen to complete the challenge with his father, who will soon be 70-years-old.
Cycling enthusiast Dennis, who is a member of Okehampton Golf Club and the Okehampton Tennis Club, said: ‘We are incredibly excited to do this ride for such a worthy cause. All is going well and we have currently raised £1,500 and have a target of 2,000.’
All of the money raised will be donated to Children’s Hospice South West, which provides hospice care for life-limited children and their families from across the South West of England.
Children’s Hospice South West is committed to making the most of short and precious lives. The care offered at each of our hospices is not simply about medical and nursing care for sick children, but about enriching the lives of children and their families.
