A WEST Devon teaching assistant who died while walking alone in the French Alps, was honoured at a funeral service on Friday.
Felicity Ward, known affectionately as 'Fizz' and a teaching assistant for special needs children and a sports coach at St Peter's Primary School in Tavistock, was found by walkers on August 14, after having presumably fallen while hiking in eastern France over the school summer holidays.
Throughout last week staff and pupils at the school marked her death by holding a special assembly to celebrate the good memories, wrote prayers for Mrs Ward and hung them on the school 'Prayer Tree' and made flowers for the school wreath.
St Peter's School was closed for the morning on Friday as the majority of staff attended the funeral service in Horrabridge. A collection was held for the Mary Budding Trust and the Mountain Rescue Fund.
