SIXTEEN members of Tavistock Athletic Club were among the 434 who took part in the Ivybridge 10K road race on Saturday, which reverted to an old course from Ivybridge Railway Station, finishing at Ivybridge Rugby Club via Bittaford.
Steve Groombridge and Robin Musgrave were again first home for the club with Steve in eighth overall in 35 minutes 20 seconds and second in the Vet 45 Age Group, and Robin in 32nd place in 38.15 in his group, but pride of place should really go to the eight Jogging Club members who took part.
For most this was their first competitive race and, although they found the going hard, all managed to finish within the benchmark 60 minutes, so ran sub 10 minute miles, not bad considering some were not even running 13 months ago.
Adrian Bower was the first jogger home in 46.37, followed by Nicole Heryat in 48.47 and Annette Roberts in 51.14, with Babette Jackson, Caroline Alford, Carole Edwards, Anna and Rhian Johnson completing the line up.
Among the other finishers, two did exceptionally well, with both Mike Lewis and Ann Sturtridge, running her first race for the club, winning their Vet 55 age groups.
Ann's husband Paul, still running for Bideford AAC, came 19th overall and was first in the Vet 50 class, and it is hoped he will soon turn out for Tavy to boost the Vet section.
The other finishers were Roger Hewitt in 44.40, Pete Bazley in 45.22, Keith Bowles in 45.47 and Vicky McKinnon, first Tavy lady home, in 46.38.
