Plymouth and district Sunday league division two
Walkhampton 2
Chaddlewood 0
IN form Walkhampton entertained promotion rivals Chaddlewood, knowing that the win would take them top of the league.
The contest was well fought with both team sides battling hard for supremacy, and although neither team really took control, both defences dominated the first half allowing few chances at either end.
Walkhampton began the second half strongly and belief began to grow as the defence, lead by captain John Francis, central defensive Matt Dudley and assisted by full backs Dane Gibbins and Kyle McLaughlin, began to control the Chaddlewood attacks.
Tom Scott and Steve Gibbins also began to dominate the midfield with Dale Mullen always on the outlet on the right for the home team.
Mid-way through the second half Steve Gibbins was ruled off-side after netting.
Five minutes later Dean Collings netted his ninth goal in six games to give the home side a deserved lead with a neat chip over the advancing goalkeeper.
The Walkhampton goal was threatened from a corner that was cleared off the line by joint effort from keeper Craig Mulholland and Mullen on the post.
Walkhampton's superior fitness began to show with both Collings and Mullen causing the visitors problems with their pace.
Chaddlewood's resistance eventually broke when Mullen netted on 70 minutes following a scramble in the 18 ard box.
