LOCAL Pony Club members travelled west last weekend to Penzance for the Four Burrow PC tetrathlon competition.

In the junior girls' class the first day's shooting produced very high scores with Mid Devon's Laura Gomersall achieving best shoot with a near perfect score of 980, just ahead of Eggesford's Louise French who scored 960.

The swimming phase was also hotly contested and this time it was the Eggesford's turn to come out on top with Kim Bland swimming nine lengths and having the best swim in the class and Laura's twin sister Sarah swimming a pb just behind her.

Tregembo, home of Lucy Weigesmar, provided overnight stabling and camping — barbecues were lit and parents and competitors enjoyed an impromptu party.

Next day, the riding phase proved quite challenging but Louise and Kim from the Eggesford and Sarah Gomersall from the Mid Devon PC all rode clear, which left only 120 points between the first four competitors at the start of the run.

Sarah and Laura, as usual, produced the two best runs of the day over a testing course, Sarah having the fastest time, putting her into first place overall, with Laura just 63 points behind in second and Louise in sixth. In the team competition, the Eggesford team of Louise, Kim and Amanda Friend came second and in the senior girls' class Caroline Friend did well to finish fourth.
