THE delights of a stroll through an ancient woodland is on offer to nature lovers in the Okehampton area this month — an experience denied last year due to the foot and mouth crisis.

The Bluebell Woods at Chenson Farm near Eggesford will be open to the public this Bank Holiday weekend and next weekend between 2pm and 6pm, when walkers can enjoy 60 acres of woodland and open farmland, at a time the bluebells are at their best.

Christine Chandler of Chenson Farm said: 'It is a great relief to hold this event again this year, after the ravages of FMD which kept the countryside closed last year.'

There is a children's nature trail on the farm and cream teas will also be available to visitors.

Entrance costs £1 — donations will be made to CoNNect, an organisation funded by local churches which supports young people in the community and at schools such as Okehampton College.
