AN appeal is being made for donations of new toys to bring a bit of festive cheer to youngsters who may not receive much else this Christmas.
Tavistock Area Churches Together (TACT) is organising a Christmas toy appeal for the Tavistock Children’s Centre.
The annual toy appeal has previously been run by the Salvation Army, which last year collected 70 toys, but this year TACT has taken over the reins.
Donations of new toys for a range of ages are being sought, but unfortunately soft toys or second hand items cannot be accepted. Monetary donations can also be made via cheque.
The collected toys will then be given to Tavistock Children’s Centre, where they will be wrapped and given out to children as appropriate.
Curate at Tavistock’s St Eustachius’ Church, Father Steven Martin, said: ‘We are collecting toys for Tavistock Children’s Centre. We need brand new toys, for a variety of age ranges, but not soft toys.
‘Last year 70 toys went out to children in the area. The idea is to give children who won’t have full stockings this year a bit of Christmas cheer.’
Anyone who would like to help can drop toys into, or have them delivered to, Kaleidoscope toy shop in Brook Street or the parish centre in Plymouth Road. It is asked that donations are not left at the church as it is often left open. Please do not wrap the presents before donating them.
Anyone who would like to make a monetary donation should make cheques payable to St Eustachius’ Church.
Donations can be made up until December 14 after which they will be sorted, wrapped and designated for an appropriate child in time for Christmas.
