CAN I, on behalf of the Lions Club of Tavistock, thank everyone for their support and kind generosity during our carnival week.
Carnival week started with a Sunset Supper entitled ‘It’ll be all white on the night’ and despite the weather it was a great success as we held our picnic in the church hall with music performed by The Strange and Beautiful’.
Our Fun Day in the Meadows proved to be just that, the weather was kind and thanks to the hundreds of people who turned out to support the event despite the temptation of the tennis and the grand prix.
A special thank you to all who took part in the carnival procession with our theme being ‘Road to Rio’ and congratulations to Lamerton Primary School for being judged ‘best in procession’. The procession this year followed a shorter route and was possibly one of the best we have seen in recent years. The amount of hard work and effort that went into creating those floats and walking entries was immense and each and every entrant has to be congratulated on their efforts as there was much to be celebrated. Once again the weather was kind to us.
The new route highlighted a few issues which is usually the case when anything changes but meant we had to deal with less road closures and less inconvenience to traffic.
We are very grateful to all our event sponsors, together with Mardi Gras advertisers and also to all of you for your generosity. Our bucket collection alone raised £2,286 mostly in 1p and 2p coins all of which will be used to support local charities.
Finally, I would like to thank my fellow Lions, their families and friends for all their hard work in making this year’s carnival such a successful event.
