THROUGHOUT 2015 £11,400 was raised by members of Tavistock Golf Club for the Memory Café, Marie Curie and the Primrose Foundation — the chosen charities of club captains Tony Cooper and Julie Harding.
At the club’s annual cocktail party Tony Cooper said that it was an ideal occasion for the presentation of cheques to these very worthwhile causes: ‘So many people helped to raise this amount and, once again, the generosity of members was fantastic.’
Julie Harding said: ‘The ladies’ section has raised £903 for the Primrose Foundation, money which was included in the final amount. The Primrose Centre is to tackle breast cancer and I personally know what incredible services they offer.’
Receiving the cheque for £3,800 on behalf of the Primrose Foundation, Colin Teesdale, a founder member, said: ‘In 1997 the Primrose Appeal was launched to raise the £500,000 needed to make the centre a reality. This was finally achieved in 2001 and we now offer effective treatment, care and support.’
He thanked the club for its most generous donation.
June Wildman, receiving the cheque on behalf of the Memory Café told members it was ten years since the café opened and it was now a registered charity.
She said: ‘We have 50/60 members and carers and numbers are always increasing so this kind donation is most welcome.’
An invaluable service was provided by Marie Curie Nurses and Jo Carrick receiving the cheque on behalf of the Marie Curie Cancer Fund said: ‘In Devon there are 100 nurses and this money will go a long way in helping the them in their work. Many thanks to Tavistock members.’
