THIS weekend will see the return of one of West Devon’s most popular events — the Tavistock Real Cheese Fair.
Visitors usually turn up in their thousands to the event at Tavistock Town Hall over the two day fair, which this year will be 9am to 5pm on Saturday, August 26 and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, August 27.
Organisers of the fair Gary and Elise Jungheim have announced that 26 different artisan cheese makers will be in attendance, and between them will have about 70 to 80 different cheeses for everyone to sample.
To add to the cheese experience, Countryman Cider, Sharpham Wine and Cheese and Ann Stallard, with her hand-made chutneys, will be displaying their creations to the public.
Gary said: ‘The basic format of the fair is to introduce people to cheese by allowing them to taste all cheeses but without charging. They don’t pay to enter the event or to taste the cheese, so if they don’t like it they don’t buy it. It’s a way to introduce people to artisan cheese.
‘If you have not tasted real cheese then this is the opportunity to do so — it is a real life changer.’
