Tavistock Tennis Club held a tournament in aid of local businessman Colin Clarke’s project ‘Van for Life’ appeal and raised in excess of £500.
Colin, who runs Tavistock Guttering and Fascias, is currently transporting refugees to safe homes after purchasing his Van for Life with help from local fundraisers like the tennis club.
He was also part of a convoy who travelled to Warsaw in Poland last month to take supplies to the Ukrainian people.
Ladies’ captain Hilary Picton is a long-time friend of Colin and wanted to help the appeal after reading Colin’s story in the Tavistock Times.
Hilary said she had the fun idea for a tournament after being inspired by Colin’s passion to help.
He will be taking refugees across the continent to sanctuary in the 17-seater minibus which he plans to leave at Warsaw for other volunteers to use.
The tennis club members rallied to the cause with 40 players taking part and other members also donating.
Colin, pictured here with Hilary, was absolutely thrilled by the sum raised, said Hilary.
