Tavistock’s local morris team Lodestone have recently elected their new squire, Samantha Sidbotham Williams to the role.
Sam is looking forward to the challenge of leading and sustaining the team after a busy summer season.
‘We love dancing locally and were pleased to be part of Tavistock Carnival and the Tavistock Edge as well as dancing at the Dickensian Night and on Boxing Day,’ Sam said.
‘Our reputation even drew invitations from as far afield as Teignmouth and Dawlish!’
The team was formed over ten years ago and dances the fluid style of Morris called ‘border’, meeting at the Tavy Club in Tavistock to practise on Thursday evenings.
Many of the dances were collected in the last century while others are home-grown.
‘It’s great fun and relatively easy to pick up the dances, you just need a sense of direction and a love of dance,’ Sam added.
Sam juggles her Morris life with a full-time teaching post and her family.
‘If you love something, you need to make time for it. We are of course always on the look-out for new dancers and musicians.’
