SEVERAL families from Chagford Primary School raced against the clock to cook up a culinary delight at Castle Drogo in the national 'Crumble Rumble'.

Nine families from the primary school, with support from the chef at Castle Drogo, joined hundreds of other school children and families throughout the country to take part in the National Trust's Crumble Rumble event — a race to pick, peel and cook the fastest and tastiest fruit crumble.

The Chagford pupils worked at full speed and the clock stopped when the cooked crumble was placed on the table. The pudding was then enjoyed by the teams who had picked a massive 3.5kg of blackberries.

The young people were encouraged to take part in the National Trust event by the Family Learning workshop, to help the children develop their maths skills and learn about local food.

The event was a great success and the Chagford team came in 10th position.
