When auctioneer John Wood brought his large van along to the charity car wash for a clean at Chagford Fire Station on Saturday the firefighters came up with a novel idea on how to reach the roof of the cab.

Pete Williams lifted fellow crew member Russell Hannaford on to his shoulders — job done!

The firefighters dealt with a queue of cars all morning and lucky customers were invited to take coffee and cake while they waited.

The money raised was in aid of local charities and the Diamond Jubilee celebrations taking place later this year in Chagford.
