YOUNGSTERS at Boasley Cross Primary School have been celebrating the school receiving a prestigious award marking its commitment to helping pupils stay fit and healthy. The school has been awarded an ?ActiveMark?, an award scheme for schools run by Sports England. It recognises what schools do to encourage activity and promote healthy lifestyles. Headteacher Rose Williams said the school already had a Healthy Schools Award and promoted healthy living with daily aerobics for pupils and a number of after-school sports clubs, but not many schools had so far gained an ActiveMark. Mrs Williams said she was ?very proud? to have made a successful application for the award. ?Even though we are a small school, we aim to provide a wide range of activities,? she said. With the help of PE teacher Alison Ewen, the school has followed a policy of developing playtime activities, using play leaders to look after the play equipment and show children how to use it to keep themselves fit. l Children at the school also welcomed some special visitors last week, who will help them to think about the nativity story. A nativity scene featuring small figures called the Posada came to Boasley Cross, which children will look after during Advent. The tradition of Posada was bought to this country from Mexico by the Church Army. Children take it it turns to take the nativity scene home to their families each night, where they can talk about the true meaning of Christmas with their parents. The Rev Stuart Wilson has decided to adopt the custom this year and the school hopes to cover as many families as possible between now and Christmas Eve.
