Hooe Rovers U11s 3
TAVISTOCK Thistles U11s managed to put their bad run behind them with a good draw against Hooe Rovers.
Their first half performance was so good the game should have been put beyond reach. Alistair Spicer carved out a number of chances and Ben Roberts and Nathan Ord both came close.
The deadlock was broken when the goalkeeper fumbled a shot from Alistair Spicer to put Thistles one up. There was only one team in it, until a soft goal was conceded and this gave Hooe Rovers some belief. Quickly the opposition gained some confidence and scored another goal just before the break.
In the second half with the wind Thistles were confident of getting back on level terms. Good work from George Andrews and Alistair Spicer resulted in a Roberts neat finish to square the match at 2-2.
It was now end to end and the Thistles defence of Harry Cole, Rhys John, Morgan Scott and Rory Metcalf, as well as some fine goalkeeping from Edward Nettleship, were keeping things tight. However it Hooe who scored a third goal with only five minutes to go.
Thistles however were not to be outdone, and the ball broke around the halfway line for Charlie Phipps, he took a few strides forward and unleashed a rocket of a shot which bounced just in front of, and then over, the goalkeeper into the empty net for a well deserved equaliser!
