Belstone v Yeoford RICHARD Drake began Belstone's latest Buckley Cup against Yeoford by hoisting the first ball of the match back over Cleave Collins' head for six. Aided by five further big sixes from Drake (26 no), Chris Walpole (28 ret) and Phil Dennis (24) and a series of dropped skiers in the outfield, the home team were handily placed at 99 for four after 16 overs, even though Graham Gie had kept one end tight with four overs of accurate left arm bowling which brought him three wickets for 11 runs. However, Belstone failed to push on in the last four overs, adding just ten runs and losing five wickets as Geoff Murch (3-0-17-2) and Andrew Coren (3-0-13- 2) cashed in, to leave a gettable total of 109 for nine at the close. Yeoford were well up with the rate required at 51 for three after 11 overs with Gie and Murch going well, but when they both had to retire on 25 under the Buckley rules, the innings slowed right down in the face of accurate bowling and lively fielding. Belstone were only able to winkle four batsmen out but they did succeed in restricting Yeoford to just 32 runs off the final nine overs to record an easier win than expected, by 26 runs.
