THREE young West Devon watersport enthusiasts are preparing to take part in a 60-mile water-ski to raise money for charity.

Emma Martin, from Crapstone, Lindsay Underdown, from Shaugh Prior and Ross Ohlenshlager, from Yelverton, will water-ski from Plymouth to St Austell Bay and back on Lindsay's boat.

The trio are hoping to raise around £600 for the charity Action Aid, which helps poverty stricken people in Third World countries.

Emma said she had only been water-skiing for the past six months, but her two more experienced friends had been enjoying the sport for several years.

Emma said she could not wait to do the charity water-ski which is expected to take about six hours in total.

She said she had been training hard in the gym and on the water to prepare for the challenge.

'The strain on the hands and legs will be a big thing; your legs take so much pressure from the water, and holding onto the rope will be a strain,' she said.

Each youngster will ski for ten minutes at a time before swapping over. Emma said the trio came up with the idea of a sponsored water-ski because they wanted to try and do something different, which had n0t been done before.

The water-skiers are sponsored by Nineplus, who are providing boardshorts, rash vests and other clothes, and Datalog Technologies, who are one of the West Devon businesses who have made a generous donation.
