LAST Sunday saw the official opening of the Packhorse Trail at Bratton Clovelly.
This was the culmination of nearly two years hard work by the Bratton Clovelly Heritage Project, residents of the village, children and staff from Boasley Cross Primary School and musicians and storytellers from the Wren Trust.
Originally scheduled for last spring, the day had to be postponed when foot and mouth struck.
The project had two main aims — to produce a full colour trail leaflet to guide people around the walk and improve the walk itself and the signposts; and also to raise interest in producing a book of the village's history.
The walk has been called the Packhorse Trail because the cross roads in Bratton Clovelly used to be one of the main crossing points of the old north/south and east/west packhorse trails before the days of the automobile.
More than 140 people came out to walk the trail.
There was a folk night in the local pub the Clovelly Inn (formerly the Packhorse Inn).
