A WEST Devon volunteer was recently awarded a certificate in recognition of his work as a trustee for a Tavistock charity.

Bryan Podmore, a trustee of Tavistock Area Support Services, was presented with a certificate by Billie Burnett, of West Devon Community and Voluntary Services, in recognition of his work in raising much needed funds for TASS — see picture, right.

Each year the CVS acknowledge the dedication of trustees in the valuable work they carry out in supporting local charities.

Billie said: 'We were thrilled to be able to award Bryan Trustee of the Year for West Devon, acknowledging his contribution to the development of TASS through his relentless fundraising and development of Horrabridge Drop Inn.

'Bryan over the past eight years has raised thousands of pounds, with his worthy band of volunteers, through book sales, his famous raffles, charity bonanzas, Christmas fairs — the list goes on'.

Bryan said he was thrilled to accept the award on behalf of all trustees. 'TASS has been a big part of my life and it is good that trustees can get involved in making sure the community receives services to be proud of. TASS is a local charity, making a difference to local older people and the money raised through the events stays local in helping others.'

Bryan's next fundraiser is the Christmas Fair on November 25 and 26 at the Anchorage Centre.

Andy Lyle, manager of TASS, said: 'It is a team effort of trustees, staff and volunteers that provides the many services TASS deliver and it is good for a trustee to be recognised for the endless hours given by all our trustees in overseeing the work of TASS.'
