Whitchurch v Newton St Cyres
WHITCHURCH Wayfarers gained a convincing victory on Saturday to cement their position at the top of the table.
Newton St Cyres, batting first, were soon in trouble; Lavis had their opening bat well taken at square cover and this opened the floodgates. In no time Lavis (final analysis 5 for 13) had picked up four wickets. From 6 for 4 the visitors managed to put on 32 for the next wicket. However, apart from the occasional lusty blow, there was scant resistance to Elliott?s variations of flight and pace (4 for 35) and the visitors succumbed for 92 all out.
Whitchurch?s tight bowling was well supported by good catches at vital times by Barriball, Chappell and Davies.
In reply Chappell was a man in a hurry (even in his running between the wickets!). He hit powerfully both sides of the wicket and posted his 50 within 14 overs. At the other end Hall batted sensibly until well taken at point.
Whitchurch overhauled the visitors? total for the loss of two wickets in a mere 16 overs.
This weekend Whitchurch play third in the table Kingskerswill away.
