SPECIAL traffic arrangements will be in force in Tavistock tomorrow (Friday), as the town plays host to a special visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, are visiting the Times' offices in Brook Street to mark the paper's 150th anniversary, and that of sister papers the Cornish Times and the Cornish and Devon Post. The royal visit is scheduled to begin at 12.30pm — barriers will be erected between the road and pavement in Brook Street early tomorrow morning but will not impede the entrance to shops and businesses. The road will be closed to traffic between 11.30am and 2pm. The area immediately around the Times offices, including the pavements, will be closed completely during this period. Lyn Roberts, Times' general manager, said: 'Obviously, security is paramount, but our aim is not to disrupt businesses in the street any more than is strictly necessary.' The Duke and Duchess are due to complete their visit to the newspaper by 2pm, when they leave Tavistock for Princetown. Brook Street will then re-open to traffic and the pavement barriers will be removed. The Times office will be closed all day. For full picture coverage of the royal visit, be sure to book your copy of next week's Times. The Duke and Duchess have a busy itinerary in East Cornwall and West Devon this week. Today (Thursday) they are visiting the newly designated West Devon and Cornwall Mining World Heritage Site at Kelly Bray and Cotehele. They are to visit Duchy College at Stoke Climsland before their arrival in Tavistock tomorrow — they will then be meeting farmers, representatives from the Dartmoor Pony Moorland Scheme and members of the High Moorland WI in the Princetown area.
