IN THE centenary year since the start of the First World War, Okehampton will show its respect and gratitude to the armed forces over the remembrance weekend.
On Saturday, November 8, Okehampton Community Archive, in conjunction with the town council, will be displaying the names of the people of Okehampton who died during the Great War. The display will be held in the town council chamber from 10am to 12.30pm. The archive group is also planning to have the records of those who lost their lives on display.
On November 9, Remembrance Sunday, the town will hold its annual remembrance parade. Forming outside Okehampton Town Hall at 10.25am, the parade will march to All Saints Parish Church for a short service at the town war memorial at 10.50am, followed by a church remembrance service at 11am. Among those marching will be members of the Royal British Legion, councillors and representatives from other local organisations.
