South West Lakes Trust, the charity that manages the lakes and reservoirs in Devon, Cornwall and West Somerset, said that more must be done to ensure the future of native species and habitats.

The trust works with a organisations across the region to ensure that the environment surrounding the lakes is managed and conserved using appropriate techniques and that individual species and habitat action plans are put into place.

Its conservation team has been meeting with likeminded volunteers who collect wildlife data at the sites in its management.

Evolving from this work is a wildlife workshop, which will be held on Thursday, April 23 at Lakeside, Roadford Lake and is a free event for anyone who currently records wildlife, or would like to at any of the trust sites.

The event, which will run from 10am-2.30pm, includes presentations from volunteers who already work with the trust, including David Smallshire of the British Dragonfly Society, Helen Shaw of Devon Bat Group and Phil Harris of Cornwall Butterfly Society.

The main aim of the event is for the trust's conservation team to meet with volunteer recorders and to discuss ways of working together going forward.
