TWO men who died following a collision near Hatherleigh on Wednesday (July 25) have today been named.
The driver, Marcus Cobb, aged 32 from Jacobstowe, and front seat passenger, Daniel Maskell, aged 26 from Hatherleigh, both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Emergency services were notified at around 9.30pm to the single vehicle collision which occurred on the A3072 at Pulworthy Cross.
The rear seat passenger, a 21-year-old man from Hatherleigh, was airlifted by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.
A fourth passenger, a 29-year-old man from Okehampton, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by ambulance and has since been discharged.
Local officers along with officers from the roads policing team and the serious collision investigation unit attended the scene. The road was closed for eight hours while a forensic examination of the scene was carried out.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them and would like to hear from anyone who saw the Honda Civic travelling along the A3072 from Holsworthy towards Hatherleigh prior to the incident.
