P & D Premier
University of Plymouth 2
Tavistock 0
THE Lambs' unbeaten run since the start of the season finally came to an end with the University grabbing the points at windswept Staddiscombe.
The cold wind was not conducive to good football but both sides tried their best to overcome the conditions. The Lambs had a scare in the first minute with the ball sailing just wide of Craig Howell's post but soon settled.
Darren Halfyard and Simon Pocknell controlled the midfield. Conditions were ideal to have a go from long range and Halfyard was unlucky to see an effort go flashing past the wrong side of an upright.
The second half did not produce the chances of the first with both sides cancelling out each other and it was not until late in the game when the tide turned against the Lambs.
A through-ball put Pat McCarthy away and he half went around keeper Howells before the ball trickled into the net.
Tavistock were unfortunate not to equalise almost immediately when Halfyard's low cross hit a defender and just went the wrong side of the post.
The best chance for the Lambs came ten minutes before the end and again it was Halfyard getting to the byline to send in the perfect cross only for Steve Brownlow to head over from close range.
University finally sealed victory in the final minute when direct from a corner Joel Pearson's inswinger eluded everyone to finish in the net.
