Ellis Cup quarter-final
OPM 8
Tavistock 22
TAVISTOCK progressed to the semi-final with a hard fought win in a mud bath at Elburton.
Conditions made attractive running rugby virtually impossible, but Tavistock forwards dominated.
The front row of Steve Langdon, Darren Chappell and John Longdon who were outweighed by three stone a man, performed heroically as OPM's had to replace their entire front row.
Tavistock opened the scoring with a penalty by Buster Credicott. He then set up the first try with a textbook up and under. Gareth Davies raced through to score in the corner.
Tavistock lost veteran lock Lee Easton who unfortunately had his nose broken, but replacement Dave Dean provided an extra option in the lineout.
OPM replied with a try and penalty.
Tavistock replied with a try by skipper Staniland, who bulldozed his way over in familiar style. Credicott converted.
With ten minutes left centre Craig won a race to touch down under the posts, again to be converted by Credicott.
This was a great all round performance from Tavistock, but special mention must go to Andrew Griffiths and Adrian Baker who used his head well all afternoon.
