Minehead 3
Tavistock 4
THE game started out with fine flow as Tavistock started to pile on the pressure.
The visitors' midfield of Barrett, Horton, Richards and Daniells forced the through balls to the front line to pounce on and test the keeper.
The match started to get a little scrappy with decisions from the umpires leaving both sides feeling hard done by. At last a short corner fell to Tavistock with a good save from the home side keeper but a follow up hit from Cowan sailed past the keeper.
This was not a time for the visitors to relax and they had to keep the pressure. They were rewarded with their second when Richards found the back of the net. However, the home side were quick to respond with a goal of their own and at half time Tavistock led 2-1.
Minehead started stronger and more determined as this was the game that both teams needed the most as it would keep them off the bottom of the league tables. Pressure was now on the Tavistock defence of Edwards, Wood and Lovett as Minehead surged forward and their endeavours brought two goals to make it 3-2 to the home side.
Tavistock keeper Bradley made many fine saves and urged his team to attack; forwards Colin, Cowan, Jeffery and Vinson responded by working together as never seen before this season.
With ten minutes left a short corner, that appeared to happen in slow motion, led to Vinson netting his first goal of the game. At three-all and temperatures soaring the game became even more heated but with two minutes left a great combination move between Jeffery and Vinson found Vinson slotting the ball past an angry Minehead keeper to win the game 4-3.
This was a fantastic comeback from Tavistock, whose spirit really shone through.
* Next weeks Tavistock are at home to Marjons.
