OKEHAMPTON residents are being urged to get their votes in for their favourite scarecrow on the Scarecrow Trail. The trial will be up around town until Sunday (September 13) and there are 35 to visit over a seven-mile route around town. This is this summer’s one and only fundraiser for Okehampton Primary School and All Saints Parish Church.Everyone is invited to vote for their favourite, with a prize for the winner.Organiser Chrissie Read, chair of Okehampton PTFA, urged everyone to vote for their favourite, saying she'd sold lots of trail maps — available to buy for £2 — but so far has received just a handful of votes.
The trail map is available from the Harvest Workers' Co-op and the Woolly Beader in the Red Lion Yard, Pure Lettings on East Street, Dogberry & Finch Books in St James Street or 71 Northfield Road.
Chrissie said: ‘We haven’t been able to do our summer fair this year so we wanted to do something a little bit different. We have had a great response, with quite a few businesses taking part, including the local butchers and the Harvest Workers’ Co-op. Now we just want everyone to vote for their favourite. It finishes on Sunday (September 13) and we will then announce the winners.’
