AFTER a short walk and a snack of homemade soup and rolls, the Tavistock Ramblers held their annual meeting at Whitchurch Village Hall on October 16.
The well attended meeting heard reports both from its outgoing chairman, Ian Gasper, who was stepping down after four years, and from other members of its executive committee.
Ian reported that it had been a highly successful year and thanked the support given by the committee and leaders in organising a comprehensive walks’ programme, including a new mid-week one. There had also been an excellent and well supported social events programme in the club’s 40th anniversary year, as well as a holiday week walking in the Peak District.
Malcolm Cooper, who joined Tavistock Ramblers in 2009, was elected as its new chairman. In his first official duty he thanked Ian and the committee for all they had achieved in the last year and the membership for supporting his nomination for chairmanship.
He looked forward to taking the group forward while preserving the special friendly atmosphere that everyone valued.
The Tavistock Ramblers are a group of walking enthusiasts who now have a programme of more than 100 walks a year. Their walks are varied in length and cater for the experienced walkers as well as those new to walking.
