MODERN and historic farming methods go under the spotlight during two moorland walks organised by Dartmoor National Park Authority next week.
The first walk is from Lizwell Farm near Poundsgate, where farmer Lloyd Mortimore and park ranger Bill Allen will explain how traditional methods of farming maintain the Dartmoor landscape. The walk is over two miles on easy terrain — a special lunch using local produce will be available at the Tavistock Inn at Poundsgate following the walk, which starts at 9.30am on Wednesday October 8.
The second walk features rabbits — once an important part of the moorland economy — and takes in the remains of Headland Warren Farm. Following the walk, lunch — featuring rabbit pie — will be available at the Warren House Inn. The walk takes place on Thursday October 9, starting at 9.30am.
Both events, part of the Devon Celebration of Food campaign, are free but booking is advisable — call 01626 831024 for details.
