THE 20th anniversary of the Dolton and District Twinning Association was celebrated at the weekend when a party of French visitors from Amfreville in Normandy arrived for a weekend to remember.

The visitors were given a welcome reception in the Clinton Hall, Merton, last Thursday evening where they each received a specially designed mug to commemorate the occasion.

Trips organised throughout the weekend included the Eden Project, Charlestown near St Austell, the Torrington 1646 Exhibition and Castle Drogo.

On the Saturday the French and English twinning committees exchanged further gifts and toasted the past 20 years.

The celebrations will continue into next year when a group from Devon will travel to Amfreville at Easter and commemorate the 20th anniversary of the French part of the charter signing.

Dolton is also now twinned with Hillerse in Germany after completing the charter-signing process in October and a group from the village will be arriving in Devon in July next year.

The three villages of Dolton, Amfreville and Hillerse are now officially linked and their friendship will continue to grow as annual exchanges for families and children take place.
