WEST Devon District Scouts held their annual St George’s Day parade through Tavistock to the parish church on Sunday to honour their patron saint and to renew their promises.

The parade assembled in the Bedford Car Park where it was reviewed by the deputy district commissioner Rob Wiggins and guests West Devon deputy mayor Mike Davies, Tavistock mayor Philip Sanders and consort Jan Smallacombe.

The parade then marched off led by Callington Town Band followed by the beaver scouts, cub scouts and scouts of Tavistock, Walkham Valley, Whitchurch, Bere Alston, Bridestowe, Buckland, Horrabridge, Lifton sea scouts groups and the district explorer scouts past a saluting base to the church where the service was conducted by the West Devon scouts district chairman, the Rev Andy Atkins.

During the service, the achievements gained by the beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers throughout the last year were all acknowledged together with presentations of some adult long service awards. Linda Davies received the award for merit in recognition of her scouting, especially for the last five years as her work as the district training manager.

The collection was held for the Gold Dust Appeal Derriford Hospital.
