HAVING not kicked a ball in anger for more than five weeks, Callington Town first team effectively restart their season on Saturday, weather permitting, when they entertain fellow Jewson League side Saltash United in the second round of the Cornwall Senior Cup at Ginsters Marshfield Parc, kick off 2.30pm.
However, with the weather forecast at best changeable supporters are urged to listen to the local radio broadcasts on Saturday morning for confirmation.
Manager Ian Southcott is continuing gradually to include new young local players with teenagers Jim Shorten, Darren Wolley and Chris Tilbury joining fellow ex colts Matt Hawke and Gary Williams in the line up — along with new signing Warren Hewings from Ivybridge Town.
Following an enforced lay-off last weekend due to the weather, Callington town second team continue their seemingly never ending series of away matches when they have a double header of difficult ties this weekend.
On Saturday they travel to Par sportsground to meet Biscovey in the Duchy Premier League while on Sunday they make the long trek in the opposite direction to meet border club Morwenstow in the Launceston Cup. Both kick-offs are at 2.30pm, meet Callington Cricket club 12.30pm.
Callington Town Third team will be hoping to end three weeks of enforced holidays when they travel to Maker-with-Rame in a re-arranged Bodmin Trophies Duchy League Division Four East match, kick-off 2.30pm, leave Callington Cricket Club 1pm.
