OPPONENTS of a proposed wind farm scheme which would be sited in the Den Brook Valley between North Tawton and Bow held a fundraising event last weekend as they continue their fight against the proposal. The well-attended event on Saturday evening took place at Reeve Castle, Zeal Monachorum, from where it is possible to see the proposed wind farm site. The evening was organised by Den Brook Valley Action Group which is fighting proposals by Renewable Energy Systems to build either ten 300ft high turbines or 19 turbines with a height of 262ft each. Maureen Thomson, chairman of DBVAG said the venue was exactly the kind of ?beautiful and tranquil setting? which would be ?destroyed? by the proposed wind farm. The gathering was addressed by West Devon and Torridge Conservative MP Geoffrey Cox who said the growing number of applications to site wind farms in West Devon was a result of the ?failure of the Government to develop a coherent renewable energy policy?. Mr Cox said there was a ?huge risk? of damaging the rural economy and despoiling the countryside. He called on local people to continue the fight against the ?pointless and discredited rush? to build onshore wind turbines in sensitive landscapes. A full planning application is expected to be submitted by RES to West Devon Borough Council in the coming months.
