Devon and Exeter senior three
South Zeal Utd 0
THE score did not really reflect the game as Zeal put up a really good performance against a very good Witheridge team.
The first half was fairly even as both teams created chances with the best falling to South Zeal's Harley Cann, whose shot just went wide of the left hand post. However, it was the visitors who took the lead when Zeal failed to deal with one of many long throw-ins taken by the Witheridge left back as the ball skidded off one of Zeal's defenders and into the net.
Zeal were the better side in the first 20 minutes of the second half but could not create any really good chances as the Witheridge defence gave nothing away. The visitors then went two up with almost a replica of the first goal as Zeal failed to defend yet another long throw-in.
Zeal pushed on in an effort to get something out of the game. There was a great effort from Harley Cann, who was put through by Chris Hull, but his resulting shot went narrowly wide. The visitors defence held firm despite pressure from the home side.
In the last 15 minutes Witheridge played some great football as Zeal tired and scored two more goals, the second of which was a great header from 10 yards out.
Although well beaten in the end as usual Zeal never gave up and kept going until the final whistle.
l On Saturday South Zeal United are at home to Lapford, kick-off 2.15pm.
