THE female occupant of a house in Coldridge, near North Tawton, was injured in an explosion in her living room last Wednesday week. Fire crews from North Tawton and Chulmleigh were called to the scene at around 5.30pm and, along with ambulance staff, treated the woman ? who was suffering from shock ? at the scene. She had been injured by flying glass and suffered burns. Once the building had been made safe, the woman was allowed to return. North Tawton fire station commander Twiggy Lake said investigations had found the cause of the explosion to be an overheating woodburning stove. He advised the public to ensure their woodburning stoves were installed correctly. North Tawton fire crew was also called to a chimney fire at Winkleigh last Sunday, where damage was confined to the chimney and hearth area. The crew was at the scene for approximately one hour.
