A YOUNG chef event organised by Yelverton Rotary Club at Princetown Primary School exhibited the cooking skills of children in year six.
This was the final of a cooking event that has lasted for the first half of the autumn term.
The children — Katie Maynard, Keiran Edgar-Neal, Toby Brimacombe, Martha Alexander, and Chelsie Saward — aged 10 to 11-years-old, each cooked their own dish on finals night and these included a korma curry and a spaghetti bolognese. Each of the children provided a pudding of their own choice.
The judges of the final were John Hooker, proprietor and head chef at the recently re-opened Cornish Arms in Tavistock, and Commander Rich Harris, of the Royal Navy logistics training at HMS Raleigh.
John said: 'Each of them were well organised and they produced excellent food, cooked to a very high standard with a very professional service.
'If any of these hard working youngsters wants a career in cooking and catering then they will have no problem getting there.'
Commander Harris suggested they would all be very welcome in the Navy.
The winner was announced as Toby Brimicombe.
Yelverton Rotary Club provided prizes awarded by the president Pam Law, and each child received an apron from the club, which had the school and rotary logos, and a hat with their own name printed.
