KEEN young photographers are being encouraged to get snapping and enter a competition being held by the Tavyside Patients' Association.

This is the first photographic competition the association has held and it is open to all young people in the Tavistock area, in three age categories — four to seven year olds, eight to eleven year olds and 12 to 16 year olds.

There are four categories for each age group, Sport and Leisure, Celebration, Family and Pets and Dartmoor. Competitors may submit three photographs to each category at £1 per entry.

The photograph should be four inches by six inches with the entrant's name, date of birth, address, telephone number and the category entered attached or written on the reverse, and addressed to Junior Photographic Competition, Tavyside Health Centre, Abbey Rise, Tavistock, PL19 9FD.

The photographs may be submitted from August 5 to 4pm on Monday September 3.

Winners will be announced before the start of the Tavyside annual quiz night at 7pm on September 6 at the Parish Rooms in Tavistock.

There will be a prize for the winners of each category, and prizes, sponsored by Dartmoor Photographic, will be awarded to the overall winners in each age group and presented to them at Tavyside Health Centre on Saturday September 8 at 10.30am.

Judges will be Times photographer James Bird, a doctor from the health centre and Stuart Black, chairman of the Tavistock Camera Club.

The entries should be delivered to Tavyside Health Centre either by hand or by post, together with the entry fees. Coins will only be accepted for hand delivered entries.
